Summer 1 Highlights

We have settled back after half term really well, enjoying learning about our new topics. We had a great Earth Day learning about Nepal and how Just One Tree are making a difference to this country. We have also enjoyed learning about Continents and Oceans and planting our seeds in Science.

Spring 2 Highlights

We had a fantastic Spring 2 that was full of lots of fun and exciting things! We loved learning about Florence Nightingale in History and finding out about how she changed hospitals and the nursing profession. We also celebrated World Book Week and got to read lots of new stories. Finally, we celebrated Easter with our very creative Easter Bonnets!

Our Trip to Gornal Library

We had a wonderful trip to Gornal Library. It was a long and tiring walk to the library but we had a great time completing our field work for geography. While we were at the library, they spoke to us about what happens in a library and what they offer. We were amazed with some of the facts they told us. We then got the opportunity to choose a book to borrow.

World Book Week

To celebrate World Book Day we focused on ‘Being Unique’. We looked at a range of books including: Incredible You, What Makes Me a Me and Only One You. We created some fantastic poems and looked closely at different vocabulary used within the books. We also linked our maths work on Statistics to World Book Week finding out about Teacher’s Favourite Books. To finish our week off we made some lovely artwork, colouring our own fish to show how we are all unique and can make a difference.

We also enjoyed spending time reading with Year 5 during our story swap session. We also got treated to a story by Mrs Edwards and Miss Edwards who read one of their favourite books.

Spring 1 Highlights

We have had a great first week back at school, focusing on our Dreams and Goals. We thought about what we would like to achieve this year. We also looked at the significance of Martin Luther King and his famous 'I have a Dream' speech to help us create our beautiful poems about our dreams for oursleves, our family, our friends and the world in which we live in.

West Midlands Fire Service

We were lucky enough to have a visit from West Midlands Fire Service. We got learn compare the fire service between now and 1666 during the Great Fire of London! We also got to explore a fire engine and speak to the fire crew. We can also now talk about fire hazards, ask us about what we know!

Think Tank Trip

We had a great time at the Think Tank Birmingham. We went into a Space workshop to learn about how astronauts go into space and the team that help them. We tried on a space suit and worked out which materials would be suitable for it. After our workshop we explored the museum and found out facts about our world. We especially enjoyed playing in the Science Garden and Mini Brum.

Peter Thorpe Art

We have been looking at the artist Peter Thorpe for our art this half term. We have learnt that he does abstract art and uses his left over paint for his work. We created our own artwork in his style using chalk. We thought carefully about what to put in the background and foreground. Here are our finished pieces!
