What are Enrichment Days?
We are continuously updating and developing the programme of Enrichment Days and see it as an important part of the curriculum where students are actively involved in their learning. The opportunities at Milking Bank for students to learn go far beyond the classroom and our enrichment days are one of the ways we achieve this.
There are at least six days each year which are special curriculum enrichment days; giving students the opportunity to experience activities focused on a specific subject or whole school theme. The days give students more time to focus and develop their learning, they provide opportunities for new experiences as well as nurturing and developing already identified talents .
Our aim is to involve all students, develop their skills to become active members of Milking Bank and the wider community and prepare them to be responsible citizens and enthusiastic lifelong learners.
Enrichment Days provide an opportunity for students to study a subject in more details for the day, giving the opportunity to develop additional skills such as team work, and encouraging them to take part in activities and challenges that are different to their normal everyday lessons.
October is Black History month in the UK, an event that has been celebrated across the nation for more than 30 years. The focus for this year was ‘Saluting Our Sisters’, looking at and celebrating the contributions and breakthroughs of female black professionals. The children of Milking Bank value that all people, no matter their colour, should have equal rights and opportunities. Children across the school, from Reception to year 6, chose a black female to research and present as part of our Black History Month school display.
During our first enrichment day, each year group chose their focus. Reception focused on Harvest, Year 1 computing, Year 2 Music, Year 4 The Romans, Year 5 California and Years 3 and 5 focused on RE. We all had a fabulous day with performances, cooking, listening to special visitors and model making to name just a few of the things that we got up to!
We had super Science Enrichment Day 2023! The theme for British Science Week this year was ‘Connections’. We decided to focus on ‘Smashing Stereotypes’ and explored lots of different female scientists. Each year group had their own scientist to explore!
