Remembrance Day
Year 5 marked Remembrance Day by reflecting on those people affected in our local area. We made a poppy for each soldier who sadly lost their life during the Great War. We took these names from the Lower Gornal memorial. We also created some artwork to mark the event.
Alongside our work on California, year five have been learning about the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. We spent some time learning about different types of bridges including: beam, arch and suspension bridges. The children worked together in small groups to build each type of bridge. They investigated which bridge had the best design and which had the furthest span.
Year 5 have had a fantastic time learning about California this half term. Inspired by our topic, we designed our own burger recipe. We then made our very own burgers and tasted them too! We were very lucky to be visited by a special visitor, Chef Nick, who talked to us about his career as a chef and answered lots of our questions.
